BOOKING AND CANCELLATION: Guarantee your mat space by booking your LLiV Yoga classes online for our Clapham Common location. If you need to cancel your yoga class, please do so no later than 2 hours before the scheduled start time.
ARRIVAL: Arrive to your yoga class in good time – at least 15 minutes early for your first class. Late-comers will not be admitted once class starts… sorry :(
INJURIES: Please let reception and your teacher know before each class if you have an injury or medical condition.
FACILITIES: We have changing and shower facilities and you can store your belongings in a separate locked room Clapham Common.
WHAT TO WEAR: bring clothes in which you are free to move, stretch and sweat. Most women wear leggings and a workout top. Men tend to wear shorts and a t-shirt or vest, or just shorts. Please make sure your shorts are lined or wear underwear too ;)
INSIDE THE STUDIO: Please remove your shoes and socks before entering the studio (we practise bare-foot).
EQUIPMENT: Bring your own yoga mat or you can rent one of ours for £1. Mat spaces will already be laid out for busy classes. If you bring your own mat, just remove the LLiV yoga mat or put yours on top… your choice. Yoga blocks and straps are provided free of charge. We also provide strips of mat to protect your knees. If you sweat a lot please bring a large towel to cover your mat (or rent one: £2 for a mat towel, £1 for a hand towel). Please note camping mats, mat towels or thick foam stretching mats will not be accepted as alternatives to a yoga mat.
IN CLASS: Always stay until the end of class both for your own safety and for the sake of others around you. If you need to rest, take Child’s Pose at any time (just ask your teacher what this is :)
ATMOSPHERE: Some yoga studios require silence before and after class.... we don't! We encourage you to chat to your neighbours, have fun and make new friends. Communication and connection are essential to making us a vibrant yoga community. But, we also respect that sometimes you just want to be in your own mental space, so let your mood guide you.
The great thing about this style of yoga is that it’s accessible to everyone regardless of age, build or sex. We place more value on you giving it a go and enjoying it than being perfect. And, you’ll find our whole community are encouraging and just want you to get the most out of your class. Our teachers will lead the whole class through a sequence of yoga poses, and will give you options and modifications to poses - where necessary - for the level you’re at. We offer both Beginners and All Levels Yoga classes. If you’re unsure which class to choose, just ask us!
Absolutely, in their thousands! Men of all ages, builds, and sporting and professional backgrounds practice with us. Feeling great as a result of breathing, moving and stretching isn’t limited to females. Men also use yoga for stress relief, injury rehabilitation, to supplement other sports or just to feel good in their bodies and more calm in their minds.
The simple answer is that consistency is key and a regular practice can have profound benefits on your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Remember you're working to undo hours and hours of bad posture, tension and stress in just 60-90 minutes.
That said, a committed ‘once a week’ practice will have a noticeable impact, but with 2-3 classes a week you’ll soon see and feel the transformation that yoga brings to your body, mind and life. Practise more than 4 times a week and a new way of being is possible and the impact can be profound. Just come and experience it for yourself.
Activities such as lifting weights, spinning or running can be great at building large muscles. However, as the body tends to move in a linear way, as muscles build, they also shorten and tighten. LLiV Yoga will work both the large and more subtle muscle groups. And unlike gym workouts, yoga grows flexibility whilst it builds strength, which creates a longer, leaner, more toned look, and means you get more open and free whilst you build strength.
The emphasis on breathing and relaxation also switches on the part of the brain that promotes healing and repair. And we integrate tools to help you let go of the unnecessary stuff you’re carrying, which helps you manage stress.
We advise not eating heavy meals at least two hours before class. If you need to eat before class, have something light like fruit, nuts or a natural energy bar.
Yes, of course! The only prerequisite for doing yoga is your desire to do it. Many people come to yoga because they feel too tight and restricted in their bodies and long to feel more open and free. If you’ve never stretched before you’ll find our classes challenging, but if you commit to regular classes you’ll be amazed at how much your body opens up, the flexibility you gain and how freely you can move.
If you’re a first timer to yoga, we’d advise you take a few Beginners Classes before you try an All Levels Class. LLiV Beginners Yoga Classes are a little slower, have simpler poses, with more explanation. If you’re already fit, strong, body aware and confident in trying new things, you might want to jump straight in to an All Levels class, but normally we recommend to try at least one Beginners Class. Absolutely. Power Vinyasa Yoga takes place at a fat burning heart rate so can definitely help you lose weight. It's just part of the equation though, and we encourage you to look at your diet and lifestyle. Check out our programs and blog to find out more about this.
Yes, yoga is often recommended to support the healing of injuries. Movement in a heated room helps heal injuries as it warms up the muscles and ligaments, and increases blood circulation which brings new oxygen to, and removes toxins from, the injured areas. This supports the healing process by supporting cell rejuvenation and breaking up internal scar tissue.
The most important thing is for you to tune in to your body and be sensitive to it so that you are responsible in your practice. Please also speak to your doctor/ physio / chiropractor first, as well as the class teachers, and follow any modifications they give you.
Everyone’s body is different and reacts to pregnancy and heat differently, and over the last 10 years, we've had many women continue their practice through pregnancy. We always recommend you speak to your doctor first and get their professional advice and permission, and we don’t recommend you start practising with us in your first trimester or if you don’t already have an established vinyasa yoga practice. Pose modifications are needed when pregnant, so if you do decide to practice, please always check with the teacher.
